Can OT Help Me?

Are you disappointed that you are not "back to normal" after your concussion
because you are still in a fog?
Maybe the progression of your condition has you relying on family to help you with everyday tasks?
Have you recently said, "I just want to get back to my life"?
Are you worried your teen won't be able to function once they are out of the house because of their autism or ADHD?

Let's get started on your journey and get you back to life

Encompassing Services for Brain and Body, Function and Life

At A Rise Above Occupational Therapy we love helping teens and adults with brain conditions think, move and perform everyday tasks better, even if you feel like you plateaued.

Have you found our site because you’re looking to work with an occupational therapist in the Lehigh Valley? Have you been recommended to try occupational therapy?

If yes, then you’ve come to the right place!

With problems like blurred vision and headaches, or a clumsy arm and hand, or trouble thinking clearly it’s tempting to think “this is as good as it gets” or even, “there is no help for me”…

Unfortunately, often times neurological problems progress or the skills never develop, and they slowly get worse, impacting your lifestyle and disrupting your happiness.

Other services may provide temporary improvement…but then the symptoms return and you feel even more hopeless.

Occupational therapy, when done properly, not only helps you move better, but also improves how you think and perform everyday tasks more independently so you can get back to your normal lifestyle.

We know you’re skeptical. It's likely you’ve been to other healthcare practitioners in the past and not everything they’ve done has helped you or your problems because you still haven’t met your goals to do what you want to be able to do.

Or maybe you and your teen have been flying under the radar in school but know in your heart of hearts that there is something that can be done to help, you just haven't found it yet.

We Understand.

If that sounds like you, you’re not alone.

Most of our clients at A Rise Above Occupational Therapy have often:

Tried treatment elsewhere, sometimes even at other occupational therapy clinics, and had poor experiences and results after only 4 weeks of therapy.

Thought regular exercises would help with their neurological condition only to find that exercises they use to do now no longer help their affected arm or hand.

Been told by a friend, family member, employer, teacher or other provider that it’s just a concussion and don’t understand why they are still having symptoms and
been told to just “get over it- it’s in your head”.

Seen other teens perform tasks easily,
but see their own teen struggling with simple everyday tasks and learning because they can’t spontaneously “think it through”.

Been told that they plateaued and there is nothing else to do.

Not realized that a concussion can last longer than a few weeks and
didn’t know that the problem could be coming from their eyes.

Thought that their memory issues are just part of “getting older”
and not related to their neurological disease.

Do any of those sound like you?

If you can relate, then we would love to help you by setting up a time for you to talk to our Occupational Therapists to find out what can be done to help you. If you’ve tried a lot of things already, that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s actually a good thing because we now know what DOESN’T work and are closer to finding out what WILL work for your problem.

Here’s What People We’ve Recently Helped In The Lehigh Valley Had to Say:

Juli G
My 14 year old son struggles with learning differences and auditory/visual processing. Alicia is so knowledgeable of and adaptive to his specific needs. Before attending weekly sessions of OT, we did not know how pervasive my son's visual struggles were. With practice and the use of helpful tips and tools, we have noticed positive changes when he is reading and attending to other schoolwork. Even during the covid quarantine, Alicia has been able to connect with my son (through live online sessions and sharing materials in real time) to keep our weekly routine and keep consistent with his therapy, which has been so important to have while we are at home. We feel very fortunate to have found A Rise Above OT.
Jolene M. Vitalos
After having fallen from a horse and experiencing muscular coordination issues with my eyes, Alicia was recommended to me by a friend. After the ophthalmologist, concussion specialist and neurologist each told me, "It will get better over time." I wanted to know what I should be doing to improve my vision sooner and safely. Alicia gave me practical activities to apply at work, as well as practice activities, between our sessions and I could see improvement each week. I am a "check it off the list" person and I needed someone to tell me what to look for and where to focus my goals each week. She did exactly this, switching up what I was to work on & look for each time. Four weeks and a few days later, I am ecstatic and officially have "graduated" from OT! Thank you, Alicia.
